Surat Layang Peminat Pada Mizz Nina
I am writing in response to an artist’s response towards the netizen’s reaction on her agreement to participate in the performane of “Arthur’s Day”.
The fact is that, when something is haraam, it follows that we are not supposed to support or participate in it in whatever way. If anything, we should pray at home that an event as such should not take place at all in our country, let alone attending it and performing in it (either as an opening performance or main performance, whichever)
It was also questioned on her part “why suddenly it is an issue now”. I am not an Al-Azhar graduate but my basic understanding of Islam teaches me that when something is ruled as Haraam, it remains Haraam even when NOBODY criticise you for doing it. To give an easy example, Ahmad has been stealing at villagers’ fruitfarm for a few years and quite a few people knew about it but weren’t confident enough to step forward and point it out to him. In the fourth year, more people knew of this immoral activity and they collectively step forward to warn Ahmad that his action is sinful in Islam. For people of normal intelligence, would it be acceptable if Ahmad were to say “I have been stealing for 3 years, why suddenly you are questioning me now?”
To make illegal the selling of alcohol is beyond the power of us mere citizens. Hence, the least we could do is to pray that alcohol making and selling is not present in our country and make a determination that we ourselves will not involve with companies selling it, whether or not our family approves and disapproves it. When something is haram, it does not justify that our family knew and approved the act. In fact, even if the WHOLE world approves it, it still does not make it halal one bit.
I really hope that Muslim artists will think more carefully when responding to an issue like this but more importantly, i hope that no more Muslim celebrities will take part in an event as such whether it is in Malaysia or abroad. Allah swt will be very pleased with our effort to keep ourselves away from haram things and when Allah is pleased, there is nothing better that we could ask for in this life, insyaAllah. May we all be forgiven for our sins, whether committed in private or in the open.
